Position Summary
We are a growing federal contractor specializing in facilities management, HVAC mechanical services, and general construction is seeking an experienced Controller to lead day-to-day accounting operations and support continued organizational growth.
This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, managing the monthly close process, and building scalable accounting operations. The Controller will partner closely with executive leadership to strengthen financial processes, improve operational efficiency, and support long-term revenue growth.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.
Deliver accurate financial statements and reporting packages by established deadlines.
Prepare variance analyses and management reporting.
Ensure reconciliations and journal entries are completed accurately and on time.
Maintain compliance with FAR, DFARS, CAS, and GAAP requirements.
Support audit readiness, incurred cost submissions, and government reporting requirements.
Manage accounting and revenue recognition across T&M, Cost-Plus, and Firm Fixed Price contracts.
Prepare schedules and respond to audit and compliance requests promptly.
Oversee invoicing, collections, and aging management for government and commercial clients.
Submit invoices through applicable government portals.
Monitor AR performance metrics and resolve billing discrepancies.
Supervise AP operations, including invoice processing, vendor maintenance, and payment cycles
Maintain approval workflows and segregation of duties.
Ensure vendor compliance and accurate 1099 reporting
Coordinate payroll-related accounting entries and reconciliations.
Serve as administrator for payroll systems, including configuration and maintenance.
Supervise and mentor accounting staff.
Conduct performance evaluations and support professional development.
Establish accountability standards and operational expectations.
Partner with Operations, Contracts, and Project Management teams to ensure timely and accurate financial data.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
7+ years of progressive accounting experience.
3+ years in a Controller or Assistant Controller role.
3+ years of experience in federal government contracting.
Strong understanding of FAR, DFARS, CAS, and GAAP.
Experience managing monthly close processes and financial reporting deadlines.
Experience with T&M, Cost-Plus, and Firm Fixed Price contract types.
Supervisory experience managing accounting personnel.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
Experience with ERP systems; Deltek Costpoint preferred.
Experience with government invoicing portals
Compensation: $120,000-$140,000
Location: Beltsville, MD
Schedule: Monday- Friday 9:00 am-5:00 pm
